Baltic Quay Apartment, Newcastle (June 2016)

We booked this apartment through Holiday Lettings, TripAdvisor and found it be adequate space wise for our needs – always a bit more of a pain when a double sofa bed in the lounge is needed to sleep all 6 of us. If the room is small anyway leaving the bed up for our stay is an issue! Just a couple of nights with this ‘riverview’ before we headed south for Portscatho staying in a couple of Travelodge’s on the way down in Nottingham and Plymouth.

An Morvargh, Portscatho, Cornwall (June 2016)

IMG_20160604_163058[1]I was born in Truro, Cornwall and my grandmother turned 89 this June (2016) so it was important for me to visit and for her to meet the grandchildren again (last time she saw George he was only 6 months old (now 3 years old)). A cottage called, An Morvargh (the seahorse) came up as a viable option in Portscatho so we booked it through Classic Cottages. Great modern cottage in a lovely picturesque, old fishing village. Few facilities but we had a car and could get the King Harry Ferry to Truro so all exciting and fun!

Beacon Hill Farm, near Morpeth (June 2016)

Beacon Hill Farm holiday cottages were a great find for accommodation near Newcastle whilst we waited for our passports and caught up with family. We booked for a week and managed to extend to two weeks. Facilities were fabulous: swimming pool, sauna, spa, observatory, 40 acre wood, games room and adventure playground – more than made up for the dated accommodation!

Barn Cottage, Ireby (June 2016)

IMG_20160625_153746[1]We found Barn Cottage on and it was quite small for our large family. Enough beds (two doubles is never ideal as George and Lily have to share, the boys had bunk beds) but the living space was tiny! It rained the entire week, but it was lovely listening the stream running past our bedroom window.

Swallows Barn, Esh. near Durham (July 2016)

IMG_20160702_155556[1]Gorgeous barn we found on Airbnb on a farm near Esh, near Durham. Just wish it had been available for the week before we wouldn’t have bothered driving all the way to Lancaster! Children had fun on the swing and zip line set up in the trees, feeding the chickens and pig and just generally rolling around in the grass being kids! Great spot for a family Sunday lunch with a huge traditional farmhouse kitchen table.

Novotel Newcastle Airport (July 4th 2016)

A common problem we have is in booking accommodation for 2 adults and 4 children. We wanted to be close to the airport for our flights the next day, returning hire car etc…the Novotel suited us fine despite us having to book two rooms as maximum occupancy is 4 adults. At least this time we had an interconnecting door!

Jose Mesa Y Lopez, Las Palmas (July 2016)

Love the ever changing and active view from our apartment balcony. Yes it is noisy with the window open, lots of traffic on the road and roundabout. We get to watch all the harbour activity and at night the whole view is lit up!

We booked to stay here for our first 10 nights in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria while we looked for a long term rental. We ended up extending by a few days as flat hunting turned out to be a super slow process with no-one returning our emails! We mentioned to the owners that we were looking and we ended up negotiating an incredible deal on this place for 10 months. It was booked for the 3 to 4 weeks after us so we booked a place nearby with Airbnb and then came back to settle in and get some writing done!

Time to learn Spanish!

El Confital, Las Palmas, Gran Canaria (July 2016)

Home for 28 days is this lovely 3 bedroom apartment we found on Air B’n’B. By booking for 28 days we secured a great monthly discount on the nightly rate. The view right outside our window looks like this. Unfortunately, this is a public promenade popular with dog walkers and joggers! The salt water has damaged the shutters so we know the view is there and we can here the waves crashing in the rocks below and the wind in the palm trees – it’s lovely. We have a great little outdoor area within our apartment – will post more photos and details.

Costa del Silencio, Tenerife

Table for 4 with a seaview? Naviera Armas ferry

We rented a townhouse in a residential complex called Chafoyita in southern Tenerife near Costa del Silencio. We went by Naviera Armas ferry from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria to Santa Cruz port for a week to see my aunt and uncles. One of my uncle’s has lived in Tenerife for over 14 years. My aunt and uncle were visiting for a week from the Isle of Arran. So we booked ferry and accommodation and caught up for the first time in over 8 years! Wrote a post about our week, click link to read more about our Tenerife trip.

Eland Green Farm Holiday Cottages, Ponteland, UK

So, we find ourselves back in the United Kingdom for a couple of weeks.

Sadly, Paul’s father passed away on the 2nd January 2017. Paul was already in the UK so once funeral was arranged we booked flights and I headed over with 4 children on the plane by myself. Thankfully it was only a 5 hour flight from Gran Canaria so not too long and they were serving wine. Wine helps with turbulence (it was bumpy) and coping with 3 year old tantrums mid-flight!

Managed to locate a holiday cottage for 335 a week. It’s quaint a just about accommodates all 6 of us! Single fold out in lounge, double sofa bed plus double and twin bedrooms. Central heating helping us cope with the very cold temperatures – less than 10 deg C. Temperature change is huge compared the to 20 deg C winter we were enjoying!

It’s quiet, a working farm in winter in a village near the airport. Also close to Paul’s brother so the children can spend some time with their cousin.

Not really time to be tourists here again as we have a house to clear out and sort.
